“When my clients look through their pictures decades later, my hope is that they will see themselves exactly as they were on that day—young, beautiful, and vibrant with personality. To me, that’s the truest kind of art.” –Edith Levandoski

It’s all in the details of your wedding | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer

I love Pinterest just as much as you do and believe me when it comes to shooting your wedding, I am in awe at how much time you’ve taken to put all these beautiful details together.

From your shoes that say “I Do” on the soles, to place cards, to the bird cage that holds your gifts, to the way the plates were laid out, all of these items and details catch the spirit of the day for your Los Angeles wedding.

When we are shooting your wedding, you’ll notice that I may be taking lots of close up shots of these details. It may seem trivial at the time, and you may be thinking “what is that nutty photographer up to?” haha! Trust me, there is sanity in our madness. When we are putting together your wedding albums, it’s so much fun to make collages with these types of images. It’s basically like Pinterest is coming to life right in front of us!

During the process of booking with Edith L Photography, we’ll go over many details of your wedding and a new thing that we recently implemented is the Edith L Photography experience. Basically, I want to see your wedding through your eyes, with a twist of my creativity. I want you to understand my vision, and I want to know the types of emotions you want to experience when looking at your wedding album for the first or 55th time. Details are a large part of capturing the essence of your wedding in Los Angeles.

If there is anything special or sacred that is part of your wedding, that is something I will want to know as your photographer. This way I know to capture this special arch that dad made, or the pearls your grandmother gave you. All of this comes through good communication, a style survey that we are newly implementing, and also lots of stylized Pinterest Boards that are dedicated to your wedding alone.

On the day of your wedding, there will be no question as to what I should be taking images of. We will have already discussed this multiple times. Our initial consultations, site visits, engagement sessions, emails, phone calls, survey reviews, and constant pinning, will ensure we are all on the same “wedding” page!

Stephanie Glamour Shoot LACMA | Los Angeles Head Shot Photographer

When I’m not out shooting weddings, I love to spend some quality one on one time with my clients doing glamour portraits and head shots. I love everything about capturing natural beauty in women. I believe that all women are beautiful and it’s up to us as the photographer to truly make that beauty shine. I don’t believe that there is one stereotypical look that defines beauty–I believe that being a woman alone, the struggles that we endure and the strength that we have within us, is really what makes us beautiful. Everything else is an added bonus.

Stephanie wanted to have some updated head shots and I have been dying to shoot at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). I really love how you can literally go from a city setting with the Urban Lights in the front to the back area of LACMA which has palm trees, an open grassy field, and the famous Levitated Mass.  And if you get hungry during the shoot, there’s a great little cafe called the Plaza Cafe.

We walked around the exterior of LACMA just chasing the best light we could capture. I’m pretty thrilled with how her images turned out.

Just a little about Stephanie–she’s an event planner with experience working with non-profit organizations and corporations heading up their major galas and parties.  She’s been planning events in  and around Los Angeles for the past year and a half. It’s really rewarding for me to see how my clients are so avidly chasing their dreams!

Here’s a sneak preview at the great shots we were able to get!

Vendor Spotlight Series! Laura Lorraine Designs, Event Design for Southern California

I’m so excited to feature Laura Lorraine Designs this week! She was one of the first wedding industry vendors I met here in Southern California and her work is phenomenal! Laura Lorraine Designs specializes in creating beautiful events with unique and customized designs. Laura can make your wedding and event design dreams a possibility!

Laura Lorraine Designs is headed by Laura McAllister who has been featured in blogs and magazines of the likes of California Wedding Day, Pasadena Magazine, Urban Style Wedding Network, The Bridal Suite, Love Wed Bliss, and many more. Laura has been the mastermind behind her business officially for the past 2 years but has been creating amazing event designs since her high school days. She has always loved beautiful things and amazing parties and decided to combine the two and create her business.

In 10 years, Laura sees her business as the leader in the event industry. She is thinking of adding a full event marketing and planning division to her business and she plans to go above and beyond and become a truly unique event planning, design, and marketing firm.

Wedding planning can be such a daunting task and many of us have a vision for how we want our weddings to look and feel, but we may not know exactly how to execute this dream of ours. This is where hiring an event designer truly can help bring all of your ideas to life. We know we may want a vintage chic, but what does that really look like as a theme? Knowing that you have a professional who has an eye for design and years of experience can certainly ease your stress of having to figure out how to pull off your vision.

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Wedding Photographers | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer

Want to get an education on wedding photographers? Here are 5 things that you didn’t know (that you thought you knew) about wedding photographers.

1. Everything these days is digital, which means that your photographer can’t just be a master picture snapper. He or she also has to be a whiz on the computer, able to Photoshop you and your wedding to picture perfection. Want your teeth a little whiter, or that flyaway that defied your bobby pins and extra hold hairspray to disappear? Tada! Your photographer has the skills to make it happen.

2. Clearly your photographer has an artistic eye and is quite the connoisseur of capturing those special moments, but your photographer is probably skilled in more ways than you may think. Many photographers are also pretty handy with that other kind of camera – the video camera! If you’d like a videographer, be sure to ask your photographer for recommendations.

It’s more than just purple hair | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer

5 months ago, everything about my life changed within a matter of 4 days. I had been working my business along with a full-time position at an insurance company as my husband had been in graduate school for 6.5 years finishing up his Ph.D. So graduation came and went and we thought since he had a Ph.D. he could easily find employment, right? Wrong.

Apparently, with our current economic state, having such a high degree and no work experience is the biggest recipe for job search disaster you could possibly imagine. It seemed like the job search was never ending. I tirelessly worked both my jobs while helping him find something…anything.

One day I woke up not realizing how much change could happen in a 24 hour period. I had literally gotten sick and tired of being sick and tired of working a corporate job that I could no longer stand. My business in New Jersey had been blooming for quite some time, but that uncertainty of having only one source of income was what kept me working over 100 hours a week. I literally couldn’t take the life I had been leading for years.

I decided on that day that it was time to take a leap of faith.
